If an existing hatch is no longer enclosed by boundary objects, the Recreate Boundary tool can be used to recreate the boundary. Once a number of objects have been selected, the Remove Boundary Objects button becomes active and can be used to remove objects from the selection. If the selected objects form a closed area, AutoCAD will hatch that area. The Select Boundary Objects allows a number of objects to be selected. The Pick Points method allows a point to be clicked on the screen, AutoCAD will then attempt to find objects that enclose an area. There are two different options for identifying areas to hatch, the Pick Points method and the Select Boundary Objects method. The Boundaries panel from the Ribbon Hatch Creation tab controls how the area to be hatched is selected. In this case, the Hatch tool is active so, the Hatch Creation tab is added to the end of all the Ribbon tabs. Note: A contextual Ribbon panel is one that will show when you have a specific tool selected. The Ribbon Hatch Creation contextual tab will show. Hatch is created from the Ribbon Home tab > Draw panel, by clicking the Hatch tool.Ĭommand line: To start the Hatch tool from the command line, type “ H” and press. The double pattern indicates brickwork, the single line hatching indicates blockwork and the floor pattern indicates concrete. In the construction industry, hatches are most commonly used to describe materials in elevations and sections.Ĭertain hatch patterns are considered standard patterns for specific materials. For example, by setting the scale to a value of 10, the distance between the “Hatch” lines will now be 10 drawing units, as shown in Figure 5.Īs with “Predefine” patterns, multiple variations of “User Define” hatch patterns may be added to a custom “Pallet”.Hatches can be patterns or solid fills and are used to identify different parts of a building. The scale option now allows the user to specify the distance between the hatch lines instead of using a scaling factor as with the “Pre-Defined” patterns. This option allows the user to specify the rotation of the “User Define Hatch” using the “Hatch Angle” slider or typing in the angle as shown in Figure 4. The “Hatch Pattern” pallet now only displays one hatch pattern which comprises of straight lines, as shown in figure 3. This can be accessed by selecting “User Defined” from the “Pattern” drop down list in the “Properties” panel of the “Hatch” context sensitive tab as shown in Figure 2. However, as an alternative the “User Define” option could be used. In many drawing situations when adding “Hatch”, all that is required is a series of diagonal lines, which are available as “Pre-define” patterns as shown in Figure 1.
